Seriously, it does. I wish men would provide me the ecstatic joy I get when I see that sexy indentation created by the lead types on the paper when they’re run through the press. Seriously. (Also, dear God in Heaven, I have so many temporary obsessions) (and man, I need help).

More NYC tidbits and other Random Crap (TM) (image heavy)

Man I’m really sleepy, but I can’t get away from blogging! Help me!

Anyways, did I already mention the Holiday Market at Union Square? Perhaps not. Well it’s an on-going (well till the 24th) market with various vendors selling all sorts of things, from body products, to handmade baby onsies, to belts, to nifty watches, to jewelry. You name it, it’s there (if it’s neat and NY worthy, of course). That’s where I met the Delong Ceramics lady. I counted at least five booths with handmade products, which made me quite happy! This lady from Australia had the nicest jewelry, somewhat similar to Dottyspeck’s Cloud Necklaces, but with other shapes, like birds and butterflies. They were lovely, I SO wanted the bird necklace. *sigh* Unfortunately, she didn’t have a business card, so I don’t know her name or email/website. Has anyone stopped over her booth???

Hehe these cute plushies represent bacterias, germs and diseases. Homeboy in the middle is the Black Plague. How bloody cute. I wish diseases were this adorable.

And yes, I went to the Ribbon District. Okay I have no idea if it’s really called like so, but come on, an entire block (39th between 5th and 6th avenues) full of ribbon, beads and trimming stores. Come on. It deserves its own map. Or something. These ribbons down here were bought at MJ Trimmings (dear God a whole store dedicated to ribbons! ARGHH TOO MUCH!) and some other store… was it called So Good Ribbons? Or somethin’.

Today I finally tried my Shrinky Dink thingies! Oh they turned out so lovely and cute! Yes there was actual evidence of this success, but said evidence turned out blurry and ugly. So tomorrow you shall see my glorious shrinky dinks. Started a prototype for the X-MAS CARDS*. Me believes it looks quite sweet. Oh also bought Interpol’s Antics. Good stuff so far.

* People! Send me your addresses! These cards are lookin’ hot, won’t you want to receive one??

Sucking you in

I always believed that store displays were assembled by the actual employees or owners of said store. Silly Amy. Store Display is a complete field in itself, people shell out big moneys to have one designer create the “eyes” of the store, what will draw potential customers in. As you walk down Fifth Avenue, this becomes more and more evident. There are some really elegant and intricately styled displays out there, though I was only to snap very few of them.

This was by far my favorite. I totally forgot the name of the store (anyone??) but it had about four displays depicting a bride posing for an imaginary camera in the snow. Her bride is none other than a very slim Snowman. Well, that long nose might come in handy, I assume. (tsk tsk amy).

I absolutely love Nanette Lepore. I found out about this awesome designer last year at the Ceasar’s Forum Shop here in Vegas. It was the only store whose clothes actually looked like me, and not like some 60 year old Vegas flakey with too much bad surgery on her face(ahem, Gucci). Need to ship myself to the Forum pronto and see the latest collection!

Forgot to post this last entry. At the Union Square Holiday Market in NYC I met this lady (Delong Ceramics)who creates these really nifty ceramic boat cleats that you hang your coat, hats (does anybody wear them anymore?) and whatever else looks good them. She also had on display ceramic plates depicting subway scenes and what I believed was the Brooklyn Bridge. Awesome to the max.

And I believe another lady in the Delong Ceramics brand creates some of the most stunning collage work I’ve seen around. Oh man I so wanted to buy one.

Lovely adventures in lands far away

Needless to say, I had a rather fun time in New York, albeit short-lived, but that’s how it always feels when you visit the Big Apple. So much to do and see and so little money.

I want to share some of the wonderful things that caught my immediate attention during my stay over there, for those of you eager to find out the crazy ass things Amy did. Which add up to zero. Anyways…

01) My totally awesome $4.80 electric green scarf from my new favorite store, Forever 21. It doesn’t compare to the fluffiness and comfort of my roommate’s handknitted scarf, but it’ll do for less cold days. (Also sporting my new electric stripe combination sweater) (Jesus H. Christ! My boobs look huge!!)

02) At the comics and toy store, Forbidden Planet close to Union Square(was that the name of the store) I found this really lovely pop-up book called Animus by artist Seonna Hong. The book was based on her solo exhibition show held a few years earlier. I couldn’t find any more images of the actual pages, but here are a few of her other works. Loved ‘em!

03)On my stationery hunt I came across an excellent store called Kate’s Paperie full of wonderful paper goods, scrapbooking supplies, and even awesome ribbons. I had never heard of this company, Galison, but upon going to their website I fell in love with some of their porducts. Some are very dull looking notecards, the kind you would see a bad Impressionist painting on, but then there are these colorful offerings:

I figured this entry would be image heavy so if you still want to find out more, clickie here! And by here, I mean below.

04) At the same Forbidden Planet store (I still have no idea if that’s its name), we came upon a book featuring this very strange and creative photographer, Charlie White. And by strange, I mean like wicked strange! Understanding Joshua was the series that caught my attention (and also his most known). It features a skinny little ugly creature interacting, rather shily and awkwardly, with humans in human enviroments. At first I found the images grotesque and stupid, but I was drawn in to this Joshua, and began to figure out his emotions in all these situations.

Later I find out, White directed Interpol’s Evil quirky music video, which you can view at AtomFilms. Way awesome! (Oh and by the way, why in heavens do I not have Antics!?!?!?)

05)On Monday I had the privilege to visit the Museum of Modern Art (commonly known as MoMA), in where I was quite surprised to see an excellent collection of prints from various artists, from Picasso’s etchings and drypoints to Robert Rauschenberg’s color lithos (btw, I had no idea you could apply color to lithographs, I thought it used exclusivly black ink) and some others in between (like Jean Arp and other people I can’t remember). I especially loved these guys right here, titled Stuntman I, II, III, respectively.

There were plenty of beautiful and perfectly cut linoleum prints, and quite frankly, my heart was beating a little too quickly as I entered the print gallery. (oh and by the way, for some reason that I cannot comprehend, I got an A on my Relief Printmaking class, sweet!)

06)And finally, screenprints galore! As you begin your way around the million or so floors (okay 5) at MoMA, the very first thing that caught my eye and forced me to stare for a couple of minutes, were actually screenprints. Some damn good screenprints, by graphic designer Ryan McGuinness (though I believe he dislikes that term…but isn’t that what he essentially is… what we all are…?)

Seriously, y’all, check out this guy’s website, his artwork is simply inspiring! (especially for graphic design junkies like me!)

Xmas Card Swap!

Yo ho ho ho! Since I’m pretty much doing nothing for the rest of the Winter Break and y’all are doing it, I might as well do some very purdy Xmas cards for all you rockinly awesome people who have been so nice to read my blog and comment. If you would like to do a Xmas card swap (or not, you dont have to send me anything), you can either:

b) Write your address in the comment box, the comments will be screened so you shouldn’t worry about evil people stealing your info.
