Star Magnolia Fall Preview

Been quiet lately, haven't I? Spent the last week helping my brother move all the servers from his company to another location within the building. All 387,219 of them. Today I crafted a bit, getting ready for my Early Fall Star Magnolia Sale of Pure Sugar-coated Awesomeness. Above is a sneak peek. I hope ya likes.
Below, some mini pouches I'm giving final touches to. Just need to print my logo unto that printable fabric and then they will be ready to fully assemble. Slowly, slowly using my vintage buttons. It's hard to part with them.

I bought two pieces of Brazilian Agate a few weeks ago with plans to turn them into jewelry. Does anybody know what kind of tool I need to cut through these (thickness is about 1/4th of an inch)? A dremel? If so, what kind of needle-thingy?

That is my update on life. Well. Not really. Life still not working out the way I thought it would be at 25 years of age. But that's too boring for this blog.

Star Magnolia Logo in progress

After contacting several fantastic illustrators, I realized that, for the moment, it's ideal I design the logo on my own. I calmed my senses, knowing the long-standing battle with Illustrator is a fierce one, and I am not trained for it. But I did it. I made something half-decent on Illustrator (I congratulated myself with cheesecake, mmm).
So, your opinions, please. Outline, or fill. Which fonts? Does the design look bad amateurish? Does it make sense?
In my opinion, I think it describes my new Star Magnolia style. Sophisticated, but cheery. Oh and simple. What says y'all?

How to turn Paula Deen and cupcakes into tears.
01) Fly naive 20 year old girl to a strange Southern town for a top notch college education.
02) Lay several career option on the table. Watch as she stumbles through all of them.
03) Organize an indie craft fair with a group of nice people from the Southeast.
04) Award her a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in a field she loves (photography) and one she abandoned (filmmaking).
05) Bake yummylicious cupcakes on First Friday Happy Hours.
06) Employ her in low-paying jobs unrelated to her degree.
07) Plant the seeds for an indie boutique and watch as they fail to sprout.
08) Travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, after a weekend of lies, then convince her she needs to move to Las Vegas.
09) Begin the moving process.
10) Have her meet a group of wonderful friends at her job. Make sure they make her feel like home.
11) Offer her to write an article about the fun shops in Savannah for your national crafts magazine.
12) Pack a book into her tote bag, take her to the park and have her meet the most wonderful man ever.
13) Make her doubt the cross-country move.
14) Ruthlessly empty out her bank account and damage her car.
15) Make her realize the monetary necessity to leave.
16) Fly her to Vegas.
17) Make sure new co-workers and clients treat her like crap.
18) Sneak the song into the hotel's music stream.
19) Considerably slow down her process of making new friends.
20) Load local Savannah bakery's blog post about its 4 year anniversary.
21) Schedule Larry King to interview Paula Deen on live national television.
22) Remind her and whisper to her everything happens for a reason, as she shakes and cries uncontrollably one uneventful Monday morning, lamenting the happy life (or perhaps memories) she had to leave 3000 miles behind.
*sigh*

Amy Nieto is a Published Supernova
If you will recall three months ago I had mentioned several times (though rather shyly) a certain magazine article I was working on, that was causing a constant delay to leave Savannah (when in truth, I just didn't wanna leave). Well, ladies and gentlemen, here it is!!

BEHOLD, the Savannah, Georgia Travel Guide for Adorn Magazine Fall 2007! ZOMG!11!! A small guide for all you crafty and artsy kids, I take you through Savannah's most unique boutiques shops, galleries, tourist attractions and cupcake headquarters!
When Adorn's first issue came out last Summer, I immediately emailed them with the idea of an article about Savannah. Miss Linda Permann finally contacted me this April (the 13th to be exact, I was mailing my tax papers, late of course) and asked if I was still interested in contributing to the magazine for this article. Like, duh! So I spent the next month photographing, interviewing, cupcaking, writing, REwriting (my Savannah friends will probably remember the exact amount of rewrites I had to do).
It was during this writing process when I developed doubts about leaving this wonderful city. Every bit of Savannah inspired me in ways no other place has. In the end, I had to say my sad goodbyes. So my dear Savannah, these words overflowing with love and nostalgia are for you. I miss you dearly, dearly.
I am also very honored to have my name included among some of my favorite bloggers in this issue: the ultra colorful and fashion guru Tricia Royal; the fantastic, thoughtful writer and creator of all things darling, Alicia Paulson; Holly Becker of decor8, writer of one of the best design blogs ever, and many more whose names will become familiar shortly, I am sure.
I urge you to pick up this issue (hits newsstands on August 6th) at major bookstores or crafts stores. This issue's theme is creating with what you recycle, a great source for people who want to save a buck or two and wish to contribute to the ecological improvement of our Earth (this is something I've been serious about in the past few months).
This weekend will be homework weekend- homework of the crafty, creative kind! Now that I finally have chains for my jewelry, I'll make lovely use of all these beads I've spent ridiculous amounts of money on. ^_^ I also received these fantastic mags in the mail:

Plenty of reading material. Plenty of design to digest. Plenty of pictures to cut up and paste in my design notebook. Plenty of awesomeness and happy thoughts!!!
Can't end this post without images of Bead Hotawesomeness!
