Pretty fall things
I don't think this post needs too many words, so I'll just go ahead with the pretty things! :D

My Heart Flies Out To You: inspired by the fluttering of my heart. I really like how this bag turned out. :D

The strings of the bird's heart continue for miles and miles till they reach... you. {{muslin, ribbon, satin}}

I am in love with this entirely asymmetrical necklace. For some reason , I see who I am in it: delicate, yet whimsy.{{delica beads, vintage czech clear beads, vintage plastic white beads, wooden pendant, gold fill chain}}

These are totally fun too! {{vintage plastic and acrylic beads, gold fill chain}}

I'm into making bracelet cuffs now. The coral acrylic beads somehow remind me of chemistry...The chemistry of lace? {{ribbon, cotton fabric, lace, acrylic beads, magnetic clasp}}

Am also in the flower brooch mode. I really like this one. :D {{merino felt, suiting fabric, plastic flower beads, vintage czech clear beads}}
Y'all know what this means, right! STAR MAGNOLIA SOON! OMGZ!
Told ya this post didn't need words!

To my dear future husband...
Because I know you must be incredibly busy sailing distant seas, battling fierce ocean dragons, overcoming deadly witch spells and running through morning rush hour to find little old me, I'll make the selection of the engagement ring VERY easy for you. Here are a few examples:
I believe this might be my dream engagement ring. Take notes, now.
{{iacua}}
Followed closely by this beauty right here. What is not to love about this one:

{{sudlow}}
The simplicity of this turquoise is enchanting:

{{Lunasa Designs}}
How wicked cool is this???

{{JDavis Studio}}
Ever since I saw this at ShopSCAD months ago after a tough work day, I've been in love with it:

{{Allyson Ross}}
Now, this is just too adorable for my long, skinny fingers:

{{modfo}}
And then, the mac daddy of them all, my wedding ring. I tried this beauty on at ShopSCAD and... oh my god. I could not contain my suppressed girliness.

{{Annie Aalto}}
Honestly, I've just been obsessed with hand-crafted rings lately, and am looking for any reason to purchase a very pretty one. Even if it means marriage.
But hey, if you, my dear future husband is reading this, don't be discouraged, I would still very much love to have one of these. OR.. OR... if you can't find a ring... a pretty sweet plasma tv will do JUST FINE. For reals. I'm not even kidding. Just make sure Edith Piaf is playing in the background while you propose to me. And have plenty of cupcakes handy.
mmmm cupcakes.

Why did I leave?

I had everything. What on Earth possessed me to leave?
But then I look at this photograph I took of a restaurant's bathroom stall in Charleston, South Carolina, and the reason becomes crystal clear.

It truly hurts to be away from all and everybody I loved in Savannah. But I made the jump. I ventured into a new adventure. I did it. No one can say I let fear overtake me. This photograph alone fuels me with all the strength I need to keep plotting all my future adventures.
(Why am I going through this again? A thunderstorm rolled by Vegas tonight, and it reminded me of my past, humid life.)

Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the awesomest of them all?

Why me, of course. Duh. Found this fantasticallyawesomecol plaster-y frame at a thrift store a few weeks ago for only $3!!! How swell! I painted it white and is almost 3 feet tall. I have wonderful plans for it, that may or may not include a hidden recording playing More than a feeling on a hellish eternal loop. Oh yes. Big plans.
It's 5pm, a storm is brewin' far West and I'm having chocolate ice-cream. Life is good. Oh yezzzzz. (okay, sleep amy)

A few of my (million) favorite things
I must apologize to all the sweet people who have posted comments on my blog over the past months. Sadly, I only just realized you've been reading me. I get sooo much comment spam on my blog that Gmail now automatically sends all comment notifications straight to my spam folder. So I miss out on REAL comments until I look through the comments list on MT. Thank you to all who took the time to critique my initial logo sketches a few weeks ago. Really do appreciate the input. Also discovered a few lovely blogs through your comments. :D
I must say, I've been feeling a whole lot better lately. I've been in Vegas three months now and am beginning to accept it (it's also cooling down, yay!). I've been busy with all things Mutation the past two weeks and with crafting! I'm hoping to sell some of my wares on October at the First Friday on downtown or if not, sell them on etsy. Am very excited to wrap my little creations with cute strings and write sweet handwritten notes to Star Magnolia's new best friends all across the globe. There is also a wonderful career opportunity looming in at the end of the year that may or may not happen, but the process of getting there and expanding my knowledge in this field (okay, I'll spill one detail: it's textile design) has been so rewarding itself and it's so much fun to learn about this!
So, I feel that a little bit of peace is finally setting over my Summer-emo heart. Though some matters of the heart are hard NOT to surrender to, and you just have to accept that some things, some people, happened for a reason at a specific time in your life and they may just not happen again. All you can really do is store those sweet memories in your old wooden jewelry box and...move on.
But yeah, crafting! For the upcoming Fall season (which I am SOOOOO looking forward to, believe me, 118 degrees is NOT awesome, whatever merits you may have heard regarding Vegas' dry heat) I want to make some pretty pretty pretty flower brooches. Coats, jackets, blazers ALWAYS need to be accessorized. They feel lonely and unpretty at times. So it is my job to make them feel like the queens of Winter again! Here is one I tried with some flashy fabrics I bought at Joanns (for a very different reason, which hopefully, I will be getting my hands on shortly):

My current 50mm view from the sewing machine: airfares, books to purchase, passwords, pretty brooches and a simple ivory thread whose color never ceases to inspire me.

Also, no post of mine is complete without a silly image of yours truly:

This was taken on Boulder City (basically where all the workers lived while Hoover Dam was in construction), just outside of Vegas. There is a fantabulous fabrics store in the "Old Town", sadly, we went on a Sunday, so it was closed. BUT when I have a wee bit more money I shall stop by again. They even had some vintage spools on the window display, and y'all know how much I heart those.

Amy Nieto Photography promo postcards!
Finally got around to creating promo postcards for my photography. Two designs, first one focuses on wedding photography (and will be the first ones to go on print) and the second shows my affinity for pretty things. Though for my product photography, I rely exclusively (for the moment) on natural (available) light. Little me would love to have a small strobe kit, but must start simple at first. So I might not print that postcard just yet. The postcards will actually have rounded corners, that's why I included the gray outline.
Suggestions? What say you about the design? About the pictures chosen? Do they convey my own Amy Nieto style of art and photography? So on and so on.

Veering off the map
Do y'all remember my fantastically huge craft studio I had in Savannah? Well, this beauty here...

...has become this sad little thing:

One of many joys I had to leave behind in Savannah. Today I arranged the boxes containing unopened Star Wars figurines my brother had stored in one of the rooms in his house, and set up my little craft nook. He doesn't know yet. I don't care! This side of the house has the best lighting. All my craft materials were in my bedroom, and y'all can't understand how much I hate working in my bedroom. It's just...argh, not professional at all.
I am employed part-time at the restaurant. Thankfully, the situation over there has improved. I've even hung out with some of my co-workers. The time I am not seating crazy foreigners (I love y'all, really) I will be here. Crafting, working on my logo, on Mutation, helping my brother out in the house, holding myself together, cooking yummy Puerto Rican fritters and learning about repeat pattern design and other textile matters, in the hopes that it will lead me to a certain job that I am working hard for. Also, I kinda miss learning. But then again, learning is hard.
Just like shoelaces. OMG I have made it a crusade to avoid shoelaces at all cost. Shoelaces and I do not get along. Do not see eye to eye. If I need closed shoes (which I hate wearing, I'm a Caribbean flip-flop kinda girl) I search hi and lo for shoelace-less shoes. Thankfully, designers of the world share my hatred towards shoelaces and thus have created shoes just for me. So thank you, smart designers of the world. I owe you my peace of mind.
Wow, tangent.
I finally pinpointed all the places I have been in the USA on my awesome Cracker Barrel map. Somehow I don't think I've expressed enough my love for this map. I wake up in the morning and trace the freeways, the roads and am always amazed at how vast the West is. How desolate. My eyes always inevitably tumble towards Savannah, and then I veer off the southeast edges of the map and I Am Home.

Also, AWESOMENESS. It's like the gorilla's piss is the secret ingredient that purifies your car.

Can't end the post without my fantastic new haircut! I am THROUGH with long hair! Away, be gone! AND OMGZ FULLY FUNCTIONAL BANGS! Love this low humidity weather. Love love love.
