Delayed Delayed

Due to me traveling 4000 miles in the next two days, exhaustion from my day job, lack of time and my date Luke Skywalker not returning my Tweets, I had to delay the Grand Galactic Premiere of Amy Nieto Photography yesterday. It will be held on Tuesday October 6th, or some other time that I see fit, because I'm kinda going back home to the Caribbean and I would kinda like to rest and get a tan and soak up the Sun now that the PNW Season of Suckness '09 has started over here.
Yeah.
I greatly apologize :( It shall be ready soon soon soon!

Grasshopper Promotion!

So I finally blog about this! It is no secret I love kid's stores. Tiny little knitted hats and tiny little sparkly shoes and cute little skirts and fun little books ENTERTAIN ME FOR HOURS ON END more than the kids these products are aimed for.
I am a 27 year old woman with the attention span of a 5 year old who FLIPS OUT at the mere mention of BUBBLES, or BIRTHDAY CAKE, or GOING OUTSIDE or WATER SLIDE. Don't even get me started on ice-cream.
Anyways, See? Attention span, very short. I have partnered up with Grasshopper to bring you awesome photographic deals. Grasshopper is a charming store on NE Alberta Street and 18th Avenue with a really great selection of clothing, toys, books, and all sorts of things for kids. They stock several local and sustainable lines. Owner Kara Larson also designs her own clothing line for women and it is dreamy.
Here's the deal: Throughout October 31st, with the purchase of $100 or more at the store, you will get a certificate for a free portrait session with me! Yay!! It's pretty good deal if I may say so. My work is featured on the walls of the store.
Just a month left for this promotion, so I suggest you get some Holiday shopping done early and add a free portrait session to your bag!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I am going to stuff myself with some Private Selection Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice-cream. AAAWWW YEAH.

A busy busy weekend!
![]()
This weekend was just fabulous! Great weather, three wonderful photo sessions, editing time and a breezy Autumn evening with joyful friends. At one point the warm breeze reminded me of Christmas 1992 back home and it made me a bit nostalgic. A second later I reminded myself I will see the lovely faces of my (crazy, insane) family in just a few days. Oh joy! Oh and HOT Caribbean beaches. Waters that are ALWAYS 80 degrees, maybe 70 degrees in the Winter. It doesn't even get to 70 here in the Pacific Ocean.
Pacific Ocean, you FAIL at pleasing Amy's little Caribbean heart. Oh well.
Anyways, on to the mini previews!

I AM SO EXCITED I CAN BARELY SLEEP!!!! Oh... that's right, I haven't slept in, oh, I don't know, 2 months??
BUT IT WILL BE AWESOME!!!
*Okay, there's nothing really galactic about it, but I would like to imagine I am attending the premiere in the arms of Luke Skywalker. Or Lee Adama. Or a hot young Imperial.

Josie's Visit #3

So Le Josie, from Puerto Rico, via Seattle (or is it the other way around?) visited me mid-July and because I am a QUICK BLOGGING MACHINE I post these now. We had lots of fun. Most of it inappropriate. And some of it very geeky. But most certainly, time well spent!

So we loaded up the Zipcar and headed to Pix patisserie on Division. Every visit of Josie's must include dangerous amounts of sugary goodness. The Jubilee dessert is DE-LEEEEE-SHOOS.

We headed out to crowded Oak's Park by Sellwood for the sole purpose of skating in the musky, ghetto skating rink they have there. It's a tradition that will continue whenever I visit Seattle next. Sadly, neither of us have fallen down gracefully. At some point it HAS to happen, come on.

Batman and Barney: A love that dare not speak its name.

Because we are geeks and were on the hunt for any fun free activities to participate in, we attended the Woodlawn (my old neighborhood) Plays in the Park rendition of the classic Star Trek episode, Amok Time. HELLZ YEAH. Me being a Trekkie, I got quite a kick out of this, and so did everyone. The cast and crew did an excellent job!

Our stomachs called our attention and I phoned Miss Ann to meet us at one of my favorite Portland pizza spots, Good Neighborhood Pizza, site of my very first meal in this fine town a year ago. Ann is a photographic and comedic genius. I hearts her.

And she hearts Russ, who is a mighty funny dude, and are getting married later this year in what I'm sure will be quite the most awesome party I'll attend! Ann showed us her bionic dance moves and told us how her mother, after viewing Grease on the big screen, warned her NEVER to change for a man, like Sandra Dee just did. NEVER. Ann just wanted to see John Travolta.

Flashin' gang signs.

The vixens.

The following Sunday Josie and I visited Sauvie Island. Now, we're Puerto Rican, we don't consider a river shore to be a beach, but this will do for now.

It was such a fun weekend!! I miss you, Josie! Let's hang out again and document our CUTTING-EDGE DANCE MOVES....WHILE ON A CAR. A best-seller, I tell ya.
Heartsies!

Little corners of my happiness

It is no secret that while my mami was here last month all she pretty much did was decorate and arrange my new studio. It happens when you are at work for 8 hours straight and she doesn't have much to do. Without her help this place would still be decorated with boxes. Not hot.
This little corner of my place brings me happiness. The light shining through the window is always PERFECT. And the flowers I picked up from the Farmer's Market are delightful and so happy. The pink dahlia reminds me so much of the peonies that bloomed in the Spring.
When did I become such a flower-loving sap? Goodness. I have plans of decorating the One Bare Wall with a collage of all sorts of flowers. Flower photos, prints, actual flowers, dried flowers. All in an effort to bring some happiness into the upcoming gloom.
Either that or I'll just super mega enlarge a picture of a beach from back home and plop it up there. That should do the trick.

Hearts! Have a great week!

The Summer Social

About two months ago I participated in a most fantastic gathering of wonderful local artists, The Summer Social, organized by a girl with the warmest of hearts, Abby Powell from the blog abby try again. It was four hours of goodie sales and pure Summer fun!
I am finally blogging this. Because I am WAY behind.

Nicolle on the left is such a rad lady!

My duty was to snap Polaroids of our guests. It was too much fun!

Recognize the straws? :)

Yes, it was as delicious as it looks. Baked by my homie, Summer Gibson.

We had Abby selling her photo prints and Alyson debuting her new letterpress line, Postal Press. The talent in that room was radiating!

Little things that brighten up my day, any time.
I encourage you all to visit our Flickr group to view images taken by guests and vendors alike. I know Summer is ending and these images may make you sad, but don't be sad! Be happy you lived through another Summer, hopefully a beautiful one for you, your family and friends. Be happy the Holidays are coming up soon and hopefully we will all spend it with those who make our lives worth the rain and gloom.
Let's make plans for next Summer! Me? I would like to take up on Sarah Sovereign's offer and road trip Canada with her! And make it back in time to attend Abby's next Summer Social!
Heartsies, y'all!

HAPPY FOOT-TAPPING SONGS FRIDAY! Part deux.
Last night, while I avoided sleep and right before indulging in my Battlestar Galactica Obsession, I thought about all the music that allows me to take full advantage of this studio apartment by dancing like a maniac without any audience whatsoever.
So I have gathered three new (and old) foot-tapping songs! Feel free to add in. I think these are also good songs to listen to while cleaning your bathroom. Seriously, you need some good music to do that crap (no pun intended).
Enjoy!
Passion Pit - Sleepyhead
My goodness. I cannot get this song out of constant repeat. Simply cannot. IT'S JUST SO FREAKIN ODD AND AWESOME!!!!!1one!!!!
Cafe Tacuba - Las Flores
The greatest Mexican alt rock band EVER. Hands down. Their sophomore album Re, released in 1994, cemented their quirky, social, varied musical stylings into the hearts of music lovers all over the world. This album is pure simple perfection. I had the pleasure of seeing them live in 2005. It was such a fantastic show. *amy sheds a happy tear for the good ol' times*
Jens Lekman - Kanske Är Jag Kär I Dig
I love love love the guitar on this song as well as Jens' adorable voice. Reminds me how everything is just much more awesome in Scandinavia. At least that's what I perceive.
:)

A peek of things to come

Just a little sneak peek of the soon-to-be-live new Amy Nieto Photography website! Woot woot. Some nights I find it hard to sleep just thinking about how excited I am to be this close to completing this giant project*.
There is rain (and hopefully thunder, I miss it so) visiting Portland this weekend and it will give me the best opportunity to stay in, have an unhealthy amount of Chip Ahoy cookies and finish all the work that needs to be done. Mmmmmm rain. The problem with rain is that it makes me sleepy. And my bed is dangerously close to this computer.
Oh well. It'll be a nice weekend. Enjoy yours!
* Lies. I find it hard to sleep because I spend two hours every night after midnight watching the new Battlestar Galactica on DVD and I can't stop thinking about HOW FRIGGIN AWESOME THIS SERIES IS.
