Fortune Care Cards

Well, hello there! For reasons unknown (but I believe it may have to do with Feist's music), my mood today was a sharp contrast to what has dominated me the past week or so. I waltzed into work hummin' and singin' made-up lyrics to songs I can't understand. Why I was this hyper? I have no idea. Luckily, I actually like my job. Sure, it's a serving job and this is not quite my dream in life, but my co-workers are really cool down-to-earth people and I have some of the sweetest regulars ever. Darling people, for sure.

But that's not the purpose of this post. Do y'all remember a few weeks ago I posted the Fortune Cookie Collection Slideshow? Well, I laser-printed some of those wise slips unto pre-cut business cards. Ta-daaa, I present to you, Amy's Fortune Care Cards.

I have since re-shot the slips with whiter lighting so that the pink background pops more, and I removed the pins. I think they were a bit distracting. Flip the card around and write a little message to someone you care for.

Really like how these turned out. ^_^ What do y'all think? Packed in bundles of six, you get either six messages or perhaps three pairs.

Some of the slips:
01) You will bring sunshine into someone's life
02) You will be unusually successful in an entertainment career
03) Take some time and really listen to your inner wisdom

Once I chose the best slips, I'll reprint them and create the packaging. Yay. Ideally, I'd get these professionally printed but I want to get some "mock-ups" out first to work them all out. Maybe I'll send a little pack to you so you can write silly notes to your friends. ^_^

Also,

:D :D :D

I have so much to blog about, mostly pictures and I want to highlight a few blogs that are worth checking out for the extreme sweetness and talent. But next week, I have 4 days off! WOW! For almost three months now I'd been working almost 40 hours a week (mind you, I was hired as a part-time server) so this will be AWESOME. And exciting! Yay. okay off to sleep. zzZZZzzzZZZZzzZzzzZzzzzZ

Struggling to see clarity through a bad LCD monitor

As promised here is the Exhibit A of my crafty endeavors that took place yesterday. You can see the shrinky dink hanging from the coral bow (btw, I usually HATE bows but I couldn't help it this time). That's a self-portrait of sorts. My hair is nowhere near that perfectly round, nor my face. But, I guess is what I wished I looked like.

The writing will go on the back of the brown cardstock (which I adore, it's got some subtle dark speckles here and there). This is just a prototype of course, I might just change the whole design.

And here are the other shrinky dinks. Mucho thanks to Sarah from The Small Object who showed me the way to The Shrinky Dink Revolution (that pretty much took place about 30 years ago?).

Okay, to all of you who I'm sending Xmas cards out to (or more like postcards in an envelope), ummm, due to my extreme slow speed at crafting, y'all might get the cards after the 25th. It's Christmas every day, ain't it!!? But here's hoping I finish them soon.

Xmas Card Swap!

Yo ho ho ho! If you would like to do a Xmas card swap (or not, you dont have to send me anything), you can either:

a) email me your address at [amynieto atatatat gmail dotdotdot com] (I hope u can figure that out).
b) Write your address in the comment box, the comments will be screened so you shouldn't worry about evil people stealing your info.

I shall email you back with me address and soon you shall get your card! You can be in the US or international, doesn't matter. I'll try to send these out before the 25th. Or maybe later, who knows.

Yes, I'm trustworthy.

Midnight Inspirations

Sometimes you really need to step away from your sewing machine. Especially if it's 3 AM and you just ruined the piece you were working on. Yeah. Like sewing shut a planner cover.

Nonetheless, as I was trimming the cute letterpressed labels for my stationeries (on the far left), the scrap pieces sorta inspired me to do this neat little sewn designs with vellum and a very cool shiny textured paper.

I believe I haven't introduced y'all to Jellybrella. Jellybrella is a jellyfish who for some reason unbeknownst to us (but beknownst to her) carries an umbrella wherever she goes. Possible story to come soon. I was dumb enough to leave those cards at Alexander over the weekend, so I couldn't sell them at the fair. But all is cool.

Dear God in Heaven I'm obsessed with letterpress printing! ARGHHH!

If there wasn't change then there wouldn't be butterflies

I guess this could be my little X-mas gift:

stationery_athome02.jpg

To have my humble notecards and stationery displayed among inspirational and uber cute letterpress companies, such as Chicago's Snow & Graham and Hello Lucky!

Currently packing. I hate it so much.

And so shines a good deed

Ahhhh, finals. Over. Wooo!

BTW, Mutation was fantastic! Thanks to everybody who stopped by and to all of you lovely vendors!

A major advancement in the Star Magnolia camp occurred today. My stationery will now be sold at the uber-adorable gift and home decor shop, @home here in Downtown Savannah, Georgia! How freakin' awesome is that! Along with the thoughtful email received this morning, this has turned out to be a rather eventful day!

There are some more detailed shots of the stationeries but I don't have my memory card with me, so here's quickie:

So exciting! I will do my best to post Mutation pictures and report before I leave for New York this Thursday. In the meantime, a photographer for the Savannah Morning News stopped by to snap some images for the PIXels section of their website. You can check them out here (I'm the 10th on the second page)!

I'd like to be, under the sea, in an octopus's garden in the shade!

La la la laaaaanddd, that's where I aaaammmm. I won't whine and bitch about how tired I am, 'cause I think you've had enough of that. So instead I'll show you my latest stationery set:

Jellybrella!

stationery_jellybrella.jpg

Just a silly drawing I made yesterday morning while waiting for the bus. These will be a horizontal type stationery. Cute stuff. Can you believe I letterpressed 127 notecards plus about 150 stationery sheets?? Big stuff. All I have to do is score them and put them in their little bags. HOPEFULLY, the envelopes will come tomorrow in the mail. PLEASE. PLEASE. Or I'll be sorely screwed.

Fly me away with the winds of Spring

Despite a rocky start, this day turned out to be quite productive. Last night as I unsuccessfully tried to keep away from the internet, I carved a quick but lovely block for my stationery. And what a delight it turned out to be! Even the professor liked it (though I believe that he pretty much dislikes my other blocks, for some reason)! Of course, I chose pink, because well, it's a happy image, it deserves a happy color (and I need some happiness to shine in my life right now).

Take a look for yourself:

stationery_dandelion.jpg

Then there's Bob. Bob must always be peeking around somewhere in my art. BUT...I'm not quite so sure about these cards. I figured I would at least have one X-mas themed design. It would be great if his body and hat were different colors, but come on, who has time to carve another block solely for the hat and then fight with registration issues? I don't. So here it is:

stationery_xmasbob.jpg

I might carve two more blocks tonight, and that's it! No more! Still I'm afraid he's going to slander my project at critique. My classmates are doing some really ellaborate images and all I'm coming up with are silhouette sewing machines and silly flowers. Though I am printing about 20+ of each (the sewing machine stationeries are a 100) and he does know how obsessed and enthusiastic I am about this project and letterpress in general. So maybe that will help me. I hope.

By the way, my college has finally opened the online store for their student, alumni and staff boutique, ShopSCAD! You can check out my Mutation partner in crime's, Meghan, work here. Check it out!

Tick tock tick tock

Just nine days till this quarter is over. Nine reasons to be stressed. I'm hoping to finish these lovely cards and stationeries so that I can at least sell something at the fair this Saturday. Tick tock goin' crazy!

Needless to say, this letterpress project is not turning out so hot and I'm runnin' out of time. I only have two cards done. Very frustrating. Anyways, today I decided to do a bunch (about a 100) of stationery sheets with the sewing machine image (which I adore).

sewingmachinesstationery.jpg

I finally managed to get these ones right:

stationery_flowerprints.jpg

Oooooh, lots!

So here's to a bloody fantastic final week! I should get addicted to coffee. Instead, I'm addicted to letterpress! That will be my downfall!

Diamond Meadows

Hmmm I heart Jello. So good. And lazy days. Not so crazy about 39 degree morning bike rides. But I must do them. Before going to class I picked up two lovely white gerber daisies for a product shot from the flower shop on Broughton (pretty much my favorite street in all of Savannah). One of them is about 5 inches in diameter, so lovely! The stem is so thick it won't fit on the awesome vase I bought from Greenware Designs at the Fair.

The other Daisy was used for this silly ad/product shot here for my Commercial Studio II class. I think the image was successful and it has that sorta glossy magazine feel. I've been wanting to do some serious fashion shots but haven't been able to contact boutiques. Can;t use my own clothing because, well... have you seen the atrocities I wear on a daily basis? I wished somebody nominated me for What not To Wear. I would be sooo happy! Plus Clinton is such a swanky guy!

musk02.jpg

Am in the middle of drawing out the designs for my Stationery and Notecard Extravaganza, which will consume every fiber and light from my body for the next 3.5 weeks, w00t! Once ready, they'll be uploaded here and I will ask you lovely people for input on which are your favorites. And what not. :)

Three days till the wedding shoot. Nervous, eeek.

Fun promo swap!

I know, I know, I keep promising the full length juicy Mutation report, but I've been really lazy lately, and I tend to overwrite when it comes to relating events like these.

On to business, now that all the chaos and drama is gone, I can finally work on Star Magnolia. As many indie shops do, I want to include promo packs on every order to further spread the word of all our lovely handmade creations. It can be business cards, postcards, stickers, buttons, anything that promotes your indie business. Preferrably, they would have to be in multiples so that I can include them in various sent packages. In return, you'll receive some promo goodies from me as well.

So what do you say? Leave me a message!

Seamstress for the band

As promised in the previous Yeah I'd rather be partying than blogging post, here are some of the fun paper goods I've been working on recently.

notecards_TOGETHER.gif
Retro is the new black. And awesome notecards with retro images are also the new black. Already printed the old roundtable** turntable notecard on light blue textured Canson paper. I (heart) Canson paper.

(*** Okay why the heck did I write roundtable??)

workinprogress_sept19.jpg
Yes, yet another awful bird's eye view shot of my work in progress, you know them too well. Number 1 is the aforementioned turntable notecards. Cute! Number 2 are the planners in their tadpole phase. that cute diagonal striped cover is for the blue planner. And Number 3 are the cutest things ever! Mini accordeon-type albums. Roughly 2.5x3 these could be a perfect little gift!

Dottie Planner

BEHOOOOOLD! (okay so how many entries before that gets gargauntally old?)

Bulls-eye Planner's pretty orange sister: The Dottie Planner. Again, they're not quite planners yet. More like note-pads. The pages on this one are orangle, of course, and the vellum envelope on the back is green. I like this one!

Way to go people! In less than two days, Craft Revolution managed to surpass their goal of raising $1000 for the Red Cross. They're up to $2K now, sweet!

The Planner of Life

It seems like ages since I haven't fully finished something. Been crafting slowly, but unlike my last crafty breakdown a few weeks ago, this time it will not affect me so.

So... BEHOOOOLD! Le very first Star Magnolia mini-planner/notepad/to-do-list thingy. Made out of funky aqua blue cardstock paper and mod circled light paper, it holds 6 pages (on both sides) where you can scribble down notes and your daily to-do list on my fancy Gocco'd brown designs. You can also store little somethings on the small vellum envelope attached to the back. Oh, look! There's even a mischevious white butterfly on the front. And all this sparkly magic is held close to your heart by a nifty pamphlet bound.

Too bad I have to give it away to someone and not keep it. Never worry! Mr. Planner Orangeque is here to save you! (Except for his pictures because well... I'm really tired of snapping awful nighttime photos with Flash).
